Streatham is a district within the London Borough of Lambeth in South London, some 8 km (5 miles) from Charing Cross. The name "Streatham" means "hamlet on the street", in reference the London to Brighton Way, a Roman Road from the time of the settlement of Londinium during Roman times.

Streatham was an economically vibrant place in the mid 20th century, when it had the longest and busiest shopping street in South London, and the first supermarket in the United Kingdom, when Express Dairies Premier Supermarket opened a store there in 1951. By the 1970's the district has gone into decline, as the population moved to other neighbourhoods.

How to reach Streatham

The nearest station of the London Underground is the Upper Tooting Tube Station, served by the Northern Line. Within Streatham itself are a few railway stations, among them the Streatham Railway Station, Streatham Hill Railway Station, Streatham Common Railway Station and Norbury Railway Station.
