Spencer House is a mansion in St James's, London. It was commissioned by John, 1st Earl Spencer, in 1756, who wanted a large London house to uphold his status. It is one of the first examples of the neoclassical style in London which then swept the country. It was the home of successive Earls and Countesses Spencer until 1895, when the house was let. It was used as a club and as offices. Today the house is open to the public for viewing, and also available for hire. It plays host to events of London high society.
