Queen Elizabeth Hall is a concert and performing-arts facility on the South Bank of London. It is part of the arts complex under Southbank Centre that includes the Royal Festival Hall a short distance nearby.
Queen Elizabeth hall stands on the site of the former Shot Tower which was demolished in 1967. It has a capacity of 900 people. Linked to it is another facility called Purcell Room with an additional seating of 370 and is used for recitals. Both the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Purcell Room were built in 1967, in what is known as brutalist architecture, designed to avoid competing in scale and presence with the Royal Festival Hall.
