The London Borough of Newham is a borough of Greater London in East London. Greet Street barks the boundary between East Ham and West Ham.

The London Borough of Newham is located about 8 km (5 mi) from the City of London, on the northern bank of the River Thames. It borders the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to the west, the London Borough of Hackney and the London Borough of Waltham Forest to the northwest, the London Borough of Redbridge to the northeast, and the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham to the east. It covers 36.22 sq km (14 sq mi) and has a population of about 250,000 (2011 estimate).

The London Borough of Newham was formed in 1965 by merging the Essex country borough of East Ham and the county borough of West Ham, to form a borough of Greater London. Although geographically part of Inner London, it is consider part of Outer London for purposes of funding.

With only 32.6% of its residents being white British (2008), the London Borough of Newham has the highest proportion of ethnic minority of any district in the United Kingdom. It also has the second highest percentage of Muslim population in Britain, at 24.3% (2011 census). However, there is no one dominating ethnic group within the area.

How to reach Newham

Newham is well connected by the London Docklands Light Railway (DLR). The Jubilee Line Extension opened in 1999 also provided the borough with a number of tube stations.

Among the stations of the DLR in and around the London Borough of Newham include the Beckton DLR Station, Beckton Park DLR Station, Cyprus DLR Station, Canning Town Station (Jubilee Line and DLR), Custom House DLR Station, Gallions Reach DLR Station, King George V DLR Station, London City Airport DLR Station, Pontoon Dock DLR Station, Prince Regent DLR Station, Royal Albert DLR Station, Royal Victoria DLR Station, Stratford Regional Station (National Express, c2c, Jubilee Line, Central Line, London Overground and DLR), Stratford International Station (Southeastern, Eurostar from mid-2010, DLR from mid-2010), Pudding Mill Lane DLR Station, and West Silvertown DLR Station.

The London Borough of Newham is also served by the East Ham Tube Station (District Line, Hammersmith & City Line), Plaistow Tube Station (District Line, Hammersmith & City Line), Stratford Tube Station (part of Stratford Regional Station), Upton Park Tube Station (District Line, Hammersmith & City Line) and West Ham Tube Station (c2c, Jubilee Line, District Line, Hammersmith & City Line).

In addition, the railway stations in the London Borough of Newham are the Forest Gate Railway Station (National Express), Manor Park Railway Station (National Express), Maryland Railway Station (National Express), Wanstead Park Railway Station (London Overground) and Woodgrange Park Railway Station (London Overground).
