Dean's Yard is a turfed quadrangle in Westminster. This is an empty ground on which there used to be some of the buildings of the former monastery of Westminster. The lawn here is also used by the nearby Westminster School, and is called Green. This is the playground for the pupils, and it is also here that the modern game of football is said to have been invented.

Dean's Yard is today a much larger area than in the 17th century. At that time there was the Queen's Scholar's dormitory on its south side. The dormitory was once a granary. The Westminster School itself - officially known as The Royal College of St Peter in Westminster - is on the east side of Dean's Yard. It is one of the most prestigious independent schools in Britain, its students having the highest acceptance rate into Oxford and Cambridge Universities than anh other secondary schools in the world.
