There were many canals built through Greater London. The majority of these were laid out in the 19th century, when the city was spreading outwards, and canals provided a cheap form of transportation. Goods were delivered using these canals by barges. They include coal, raw material as well as manufactured goods.

As London began to modernize, the use of the canals declined. Some were no longer passable, while others were converted for recreational usage. On this page, we shall explore the canals in London and get to know more about them.
