Bruce Castle Museum (map) is a museum housed in a manor house located on Lordship Lane, Tottenham, in the London Borough of Haringey. The 16th century Bruce Castle is today a Grade I listed building. It was named after the House of Bruce, the Scottish clan that owned and built it. Bruce Castle is today one of the oldest English brick houses.

Within the compound of Bruce Castle is a cylindrical Tudor-style tower. It is not connected to Bruce Castle in any way, and is believed to pre-date Bruce Castle itself. However English historian Daniel Lysons (1762-1834) believed that it was a later addition.

There is in fact no complete agreement among historians over the exact initial construction date of Bruce Castle, as all early records are long gone. It is generally accepted that parts of the building dates to the 15th century. Today Bruce Castle sits on 20 acres of parkland.

The Bruce Castle Museum opened in 1906 to provide documentation and displays related to the history of the London Borough of Haringey. The museum is open Wednesdays to Sundays from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. It is closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and Good Friday.

How to reach Bruce Castle Museum

There isn't a tube station that is really near. The nearest are Seven Sisters Tube Station (Victoria Line) and Wood Green Tube Station (Piccadilly Line). See map. You can also take London Bus 243 or 123. Tell the driver to drop you near Bruce Castle.
