Aldgate East Tube Station is a station of the London Underground between Aldgate and Whitechapel, within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, in Travelcard Zone 1. It is served by the Hammersmith & City Line between the Liverpool Street Tube Station and Whitechapel Tube Station, and the District Line, between the Tower Hill Tube Station and the Whitchapel Tube Station.
The original Aldgate East Tube Station first opened on 6 October 1884 for the extension of the Metropolitan District Railway, the precursor of today's District Line. Due to the sharp curve of its railway line, the station was eventually rebuilt and opened on 31 October, 1938.
